That statement stuck with me. Not because I want to attack him, and not because I want to mock his faith. It stuck with me because of what it suggests.
When someone says the Devil almost made them gay, it shifts responsibility away from the person and places it on a supernatural force. It frames sexual orientation as something foreign, something imposed, something evil that needs to be cast out. That idea has shaped a lot of fear and shame over the years.

I don’t believe the Devil makes anyone do anything. I think people wrestle with feelings that don’t line up with what they were taught. When your upbringing tells you that certain desires are sinful, but those desires feel natural and real, that can create a dissonance within you. It can feel like a battle for your soul. For some, the only way to reconcile that tension is to label those feelings as an attack (from the devil or "demon of homosexuality").

But being gay is not a demonic event, or spell, or some devilish trap; it is part of human diversity, if it wasn't then nobody would be gay (makes sense?).

Religion has often treated it as a perversion and the law considers it "an outrage on decency," when for many people it is simply how they are wired.

In this video, I talk about what is objectively true about sexuality, some coping mechanisms, and how the devil becomes an easy scapegoat for behaviors that people cannot reconcile within themselves. I also talk a tiny bit about masculinity, faith, fear, and what happens when natural human experiences are framed as spiritual warfare.

As a seeker of truth, my position will always be in the side of what I sincerely believe to be objectively true, even if it is unpopular. If you can only tell the truth when it ha convenient, then you are no truth-teller.

We need to ask whether blaming the Devil is really about faith, or about avoiding a deeper internal conflict.
