Here, the wind moves endlessly through the forest, carrying echoes of another time. Nature and memory intertwine, creating a quiet tension between what once was and what remains.

At the summit of this mountain stands the Kosmaj Monument, a striking brutalist structure rising from the trees like a fragment of an unfinished future.

Its concrete forms open toward the sky, monumental and enigmatic,
both powerful and fragile against the surrounding landscape.

Unveiled in 1971, the monument was built to honor the Partisan fighters who resisted the occupying forces during the Second World War.
Like many monuments of socialist Yugoslavia, it was conceived not only as
a memorial, but as a symbol of collective struggle, unity, and a vision of a shared future.

For decades, the site gathered visitors, ceremonies, and remembrance.
But as the political landscape of the region transformed, the monument gradually lost its central role.

Today, time, wind, and vegetation slowly reshape the site.

Yet the presence of this place extends far beyond its history.

Kosmaj feels like a liminal space, suspended between memory and imagination, where the echoes of forgotten futures still resonate in the landscape.

Forgotten Futures is a seven-episode series that immerses us in an exploration of the Balkans where past and future converge in a whirlpool
of memory and forgetfulness.

Liminal Interstice marks the sixth chapter of this journey, guiding us to the windswept summit of Mount Kosmaj, rising above the forests of central Serbia.

Here, memory lingers in the landscape, carried by the wind moving through the trees and the silent geometry of the monument.
Echoes of struggle, resilience, and collective dreams remain embedded in the place.

It is a fragile threshold between what once was and what might still emerge, a quiet interstice where past visions of the future continue to resonate, shaping the horizon of possibilities yet to come.

Each episode of Forgotten Futures invites us to revisit these forgotten futures, to explore the buried memories in the mountains and valleys of the Balkans.

We are also working on a documentary for this series,
which will delve more deeply into the history of each location.

Notes:

I use my modular synth as a small electronic orchestra.
My sequences are composed on the piano, with my voice, or directly on
the modular synth, and then programmed into the Nerdseq sequencer.
When I'm in the studio, I also use the Ground Control and the ER-101.

Pre-recorded samples of my voice, soundscapes from the locations, instruments (all played by me), and certain effects are reintroduced into the system through sampler modules like the ER-301, 1010 MK2, and STS. These are triggered and mixed with the rest of the sequences.

The composition, instrumentation, and preparation phase for
each session takes weeks, sometimes months of work.

This project has always been funded by Chalisk and me.
It isn’t really sustainable, but it’s purely about the process, the journey,
art, spirituality, and the joy of sharing this experience with you.

We strive to do as much as possible ourselves.
