Hey, everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2024 Honda CR-V, we're gonna be showing you how to install the etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver. Before we get into that though, let's take a couple minutes, check it out and make sure it's gonna be right for you. Putting a hitch on a CR-V makes sense. You know, really versatile SUVs. People do a lot of different things with 'em.

So if you're wanting to use accessories, or pull a trailer around, or do a little bit of both, this one will definitely get the job done. And, if it we're me, and I was looking for a hitch for my Honda, this would probably be the one I would lean towards the most. I'd say it for a couple of different reasons. One of 'em, I think it looks the best, appearance-wise. For the most part it's gonna be completely hidden.

Really, you're just gonna see the receiver tube opening. And, I like the finish. It's a matte black finish. I think it blends in with the bumper real good. Almost looks factory.

Say, for example, there's a Curt hitch available, very, very similar to this, but that one has more of a gloss black finish. So definitely got a couple of choices to pick from, in terms of the appearance. I do wanna address a couple of the big questions a lot of people wonder, and one of 'em is related to sub-models. 'Cause there's a lot of different variations of the CR-V, and this one should work with all of 'em. And like today, we have a good example, kind of more of a rare sub-model, if you ask me.

This is a hybrid sport touring. Hitch went up without any issues there, and should hold true for all the other sub-models. Which kind of brings me to my next point. Some of these sub-models are gonna have the hands-free lift gate assist, and a lot of people wonder, "Is the hitch gonna interfere with it" And, the answer is "No." It'll still work like it should. As long as you kick your foot to either side of that opening, your hatch will open up. This is going to be a class three hitch, which means it has a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a good thing. A ton of different accessories will work with it. It is going to use the standard five eights pin and clip. Keep in mind though, one doesn't come with the hitch. If you need one, not a huge deal, you can always grab it here at etrailer, or a lot of times, too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So just something to look out for. The safety chain openings are a loop style, and give us more than enough room to use just about any size hook that our trailer might have on it. (metal clangs) Grab a couple of measurements, now. And, these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. So from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be about 13 and a half inches. So if your accessory has a straight shank, it'll be in good shape. That's enough ground clearance. Or if it has a rise in it, even better, buy you some more space back here. If you're gonna be towing, chances are pretty good you can use a ball mount that has a rise in the shank, probably that two to four inch range work good for most people. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three and a half inches, which is good clearance. So shouldn't really run into any issues there, but if need be, you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those full length style accessories you might have can be stored upright without hitting the back of your CR-V. As far as the weight capacities go, this hitch is gonna have some decent numbers. Maximum gross tongue weight rating's gonna be 525 pounds. It's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's more than enough for just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier, just to give you an example. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds, or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. So that is the weight of your trailer, plus anything you might have in or on it. I do always like to recommend, though, it's never a bad idea, just to grab your Honda's owner's manual, that way you can check in there and make sure that your SUV can handle that much weight safely. Other than that, at the end of the day, like I said before, this is probably gonna be my favorite hitch. You know, just how it looks, and the different things you
