The forgotten Series! 1983 Fender Vintage Reissue Series '57 Stratocaster - Fullerton, CA Plant

Feels good to be kinda back.

Here I have rare bird for you. You probably know the American Vintage Series, that was discontinued only recently. The original Vintage Reissue Series is it's predecessor!

By 1980, still in CBS era, Dan Smith wanted to recreate Fender's best from the glory 50s & 60s. They flew all over the country to visit owners of original Strats and Teles to measure and dissect them.

Then they took their best to recreate those guitars and - after a horrific start presenting a prototype at summer NAMM 1981 - they finally got it right and launched this series in 1982.
Production began slowly so there are just a few guitars from 1982 and 1983. Meanwhile Fender Japan (Squier) was miles ahead at this time - that's the same era.

So, they ended producing in Fullerton, California in February 1985 just to start producing at the then new and now still is plant in Corona, California.

Every guitar that showed the catalogue from 1985 were from Japan. Nearly 80% that Fender USA sold in end-1984 to mid-1986 were produced in Japan!

So, this Vintage Reissue Series guitars, that were still made in the Fullerton, California Plant are very special guitars from a very special period of Fender Musical Instruments Inc..

It was a hard time - Fender's story nearly coming to an end - but then courageous employees rescued our beloved Fender company from CBS.

I want to show you this guitar. It is a wonderful player, with a great Strat sound you won't even get from Custom Shop guitars.
She's twangy, spanky and just beautifully clear sounding.

I recorded into my Universal Audio Apollo Twin and used Garageband with my own Fender Super Reverb preset. So it is just an VST-sound but I think it does sound great (it's the guitar! It really is!).

I am not a good player but I hope you'll still can enjoy hearing and watching.
