In this video, I install and fully trim the rear seat cushion cover on a 2004 Lexus. This is one of the harder trims because the cover is oversized in spots, some holes/cuts don’t line up, and the ABS pocket piece makes the material harder to fold clean.
You’ll see how I:
Use the carpet filler pieces to cover gaps the cover leaves behind
Remove the solid ABS pocket insert (it creates bumps and makes trimming harder)
Fold and reduce wide sections so the cover sits flatter
Temporarily staple flaps under the foam to lock the cover in place
Realign seam allowances for a more “factory” look
Deal with common aftermarket issues like oversized panels, misaligned holes, and seat belt clearance
This is a real-world install—no perfect parts, just practical fixes to get a professional finish.
Tools Used (Process Tool List)
Staple gun + staples (for temporary locking under foam)
Scissors / utility knife (trim excess material carefully)
Trim tool / flat tool (tucking material under edges)
Marker or chalk (optional, to mark misaligned cuts before re-cutting)
Work surface/floor space (helps when compressing foam and pulling tight)
If you’re installing aftermarket seat covers, this video will help you avoid the common mistakes and get a cleaner final result.
If this looks too complicated, or you just don’t have the time, let a professional handle it so you don’t waste a cover or damage your seat foam.
