Cats that are on their own outside clearly hunt wildlife, but how often and what kinds? National Geographic's Crittercam team and researchers from the University of Georgia recently attached camera collars to feral cats on Jekyll Island, Georgia, to record their actions throughout the day. Motion sensors turned the cameras on, and they documented the cats grooming themselves, stalking prey, and just roaming around. Surprisingly, the scientists found that the cats on Jekyll Island preyed on birds less than they'd expected—and more on small mammals, insects, and lizards.
