Lucy Hale is addressing a moment that's pretty controversial among longtime Pretty Little Liars fans.
The opening credits to the beloved teen drama, which played along to the theme song "Secret" by the Pierces, shows Hale as Aria Montgomery, Troian Bellisario as Spencer Hastings, Ashley Benson as Hanna Marin and Shay Mitchell as Emily Fields, lined up in front of a coffin.
At the end of the line, "Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead," Aria puts her finger to her lip and shushes. Many PLL fans have pointed out how unsatisfying it is that Hale's finger isn't centered in the iconic moment.
She addressed the controversy while sharing her different tattoos — and her decision to get rid of some of them — during her recent appearance on Not Skinny But Not Fat, hosted by Amanda Hirsch. In an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE, Hale gives the host a quick tour of her tattoos. Though she says she's in the process of getting many of her tattoos removed, she'll be keeping her tribute to Aria and her castmates on her index finger.
"In the original show, in the beginning, in the intro, I do the shush. And its like very obvious that my finger is like well off the center of my mouth. It's not even slightly, it's like an inch off my mouth," Hale explains.
"I remember back in the day, I was so embarrassed by that because people were like blaming me. And I was thinking, 'We shot that all day. Why would they choose the take where it was off?' " the actress continued."And now I kind of love it because I was like, 'Is that on purpose? Because it got people talking.' Maybe it was intentional."
Hirsch points out they could have edited the video to make her finger perfectly centered if they wanted to.
"Or they could have said, 'Hey Lucy babe move your finger over,' Hale laughs. "You know? We shot that so many times. So I'm like, 'Maybe it was on purpose.' "
