Sparkling Violetear Sound
A stunning species which is known as the Sparkling Violetear. This large hummingbird is actually quite common across its wide geographic range and can even be seen in gardens and parks within major cities.
This hummingbird can be found in many different countries across South America! The Sparkling Violetear can be found throughout parts of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Guyana, and Brazil.​
This species gets its common name from the incredible violet plumage shared by both male and female birds! There are several different "Violetear" species, with each featuring its own variation of those fabulous feathers.​
This species is known for being very aggressive and territorial, and it typically has no problem successfully guarding valuable resources from other species.​ When the Sparkling Violetear breeds at higher elevations, predators are less abundant, and they typically experience greater nesting success. After breeding season, they will usually return to lower elevations.​
