One year after Brighter, Initials MB returns with his 6th album Cinema, an instrumental record extending the momentum initiated with Bang bang! (released in 2023 on the le pop club label). Cinema immerses the listener in a retro, cinematic atmosphere, where a gentle nostalgia floats — like an idealized vision of 1960s film music. The artist’s signature sound is fully present: a delicate blend of light pop, baroque influences, and psychedelia. Carefully crafted arrangements bring together violins, vibraphones, and 60s organs, crossed with subtle acid-tinged fuzz guitar lines. Dreamlike jazz-inspired choirs and a lyrical voice carry the album, giving it a unique sense of reverie.

The album originated with the restoration of a spinet, an instrument long fantasized about by the artist. This keyboard became the foundation for most of the compositions, adding a precious and delicate color at the crossroads of French and Italian film music from the 1960s. Echoes of great composers can be heard throughout the album, from François de Roubaix and Alain Goraguer to the cinematic universe of Serge Gainsbourg, as well as Italian figures such as Piero Umiliani, Bruno Nicolai, and, more recently, Daniel Luppi.

Cinema was recorded in 2024 and 2025 at Initials MB’s studio in the south of Lyon, near Vienne (France), using vintage instruments — Hammond organ, spinet, vibraphone, 60s guitars, and more — to stay as close as possible to the sound of the era. Self-taught from an early age, the artist plays most of the instruments himself, joined by a few talented collaborators listed below.

Un an après « Brighter », Initials MB revient avec son 6ème album « Cinema », un album instrumental qui prolonge l’élan initié par « Bang bang! » (en 2023 sur le label le pop club). Un disque qui plonge l’auditeur dans une atmosphère rétro et cinématique, où flotte une douce nostalgie, comme une vision idéalisée de la musique de film des années 60. On y retrouve la signature de l’artiste, ce mélange délicat de pop légère, baroque et de psychédélisme. Des arrangements soignés où violons, vibraphones et orgues 60’s croisent quelques remontées acides de guitares fuzz. L’ensemble est porté par des chœurs oniriques proches du jazz ainsi qu’une voix lyrique qui apportent au disque un souffle singulier de rêverie.

L’album trouve son origine dans la restauration d’une épinette, instrument jusqu’alors longtemps fantasmé par l’artiste. Ce clavier donnera naissance à la plupart des morceaux, en apportant cette couleur précieuse et délicate à la croisée des musiques de films français et italiens des années 60. On retrouve quelques échos de grands compositeurs comme François de Roubaix, Alain Goraguer, le cinéma de Serge Gainsbourg, et en Italie avec Piero Umiliani, Bruno Nicolai ou encore Daniel Luppi pour les plus récents.

« Cinema » a été enregistré en 2024 et 2025 dans le studio d’Initials MB au sud de Lyon (France), proche de Vienne, sur des instruments vintage : orgue Hammond, épinette, vibraphone, guitares 60’s, etc., afin de se rapprocher des sonorités de l’époque. Autodidacte depuis son plus jeune âge, l’artiste y joue la plupart des instruments, aidé de quelques talents dont vous trouverez les noms dans les crédits ci-dessous :
