Beat the odds is the debut track of 10-year-old emerging Noongar Wongi rapper, Ethan Eggington, also known as INKABEE.

Beat The Odds is co-written by INKABEE’s father, award-winning Noongar Wongi rapper
Joshua Eggington, also known as ‘Flewnt’, who couldn’t be more proud of his son’s
achievements. He said, “INKABEE grew up around music. From an early age I would rap in
front of him and he would pick it up so quickly, but in his own unique way. Our family legacy is
rooted in activism, so we were overjoyed when he decided to use music to talk about issues he
cares deeply about.”

With lyrics such as ‘It’s time for us to light it up, I can see the power in our people, there’s so
much fight in us. Change’ll come with united love, it’s the only way we can fight the power that
divided us’, Beat The Odds delivers a poignant message of unity amongst all Australians; a
point further driven home by the single’s accompanying music video featuring people of all
cultures, backgrounds and ages.

Beat The Odds was produced by Kwinana Beats; a youth music program facilitated by hip hop
artist and youth mentor Rush Wepiha, and supported by the City of Kwinana and YACWA, that works to assist youths in their music journey and guide them towards achieving their goals in the
industry. Kwinana Beats teaches kids how to produce, write rhymes, perform and build their
own unique brand. It also doubles as a music therapy space where young people are
encouraged to reflect deeply and express their life journey through music.
