BALTI CHOLE | Most delicious chickpea curry with star anise and mint | Food with Chetna

Ingredients -
For the spice paste
2 tsp cumin seeds
3 star anise
2 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp aniseed seeds
2 black cardamom
6 cloves
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp chilli flakes
1 tbsp amchur
1 tbsp dried fenugreek leaves
1 tsp ground mace
1 tsp ground turmeric
4 tbsp tomato puree

For the balti
4 tbsp oil
6 shallots
2 tbsp fresh ginger
8 garlic cloves
2 x 400 gms can of chickpeas
400 gms can of chopped tomatoes
2 tsp salt
4 tbsp brown sugar
30 gms fresh mint
3 tbsp tamarind paste
1 tbsp lemon juice
sliced red onion
