Fly across the Loch to view Scotland's most photogenic castles. Castle Stalker sits alone in Loch Laich, a clan fortress built in the 1400s.
The name comes from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning hunter or falconer, and the castle’s story is just as dramatic as its setting. Built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall, it later passed to the Stewarts of Appin, who rebuilt the tower you see today in the 1400s.
Perched on its tidal island, the castle is only accessible at low tide — or by boat. Over the centuries, it’s seen clan rivalries, sieges, and periods of abandonment before being carefully restored in the 20th century.
You might also recognise it from film: Castle Stalker appears at the end of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, standing in for the fictional “Castle Aaaaargh!”
