7:00 Part 2 - Jack Sound of Ill-Gotten Gains
I kayak to the island of Skomer, most famous for it's breeding colonies of Puffins, but also Guillemots, Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, and 350,000 breeding pairs of Manx Shearwaters.
Plus Short-eared Owls and Peregrine Falcons.
You have to cross the kilometre of the notorious Jack Sound to get to it.
I had researched thoroughly this channel and the best times to cross.
I had intended to spend a full day just watching the flow of the current, and hopefully find some kayakers to cross with the next day.
On the day I arrived you truly could barely see the sea at the foot of the cliffs, such was the dense mist/fog.
Skomer Island itself was totally invisible!
I was advised by a person in the ferry/tour boat office to go the very next day, as the weather looked to be worse on the subsequent few days (it wasn't - it turned out to be much better!)
My mistake listening to this advice...
Over the two next days I met two couples who kayaked it, in better weather. Both couples (much more experienced than me) said it was tough going...
I perhaps could have gone with them, on a better day...but then, I would have missed out on the excellent adventure I had..plus the dark, brooding weather added great atmosphere!
My sincere gratitude at being able to use the beautiful and dramatic music that has so enhanced this video, and most of my others.
