ফিল্ড মার্শাল হিসেবে পদোন্নতি পেয়েছেন পাকিস্তানের সেনাপ্রধান আসিম মুনির। যা দেশটির সেনাবাহিনীর মধ্যে সর্বোচ্চ র‌্যাংক। গতকাল মঙ্গলবার ২০মে দেশটির প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়ের এক বিবৃতিতে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে।

পাকিস্তানের সেনাপ্রধান আসিম মুনিরকে দেশের ইতিহাসে দ্বিতীয় ফিল্ড মার্শাল হিসেবে পদোন্নতির অনুমোদন দিয়েছে দেশটির মন্ত্রিসভা । এই মন্ত্রিসভার নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছেন দেশটির প্রধানমন্ত্রী শাহবাজ শরিফ । এর মধ্য দিয়ে দীর্ঘ ছয় দশক পর পাকিস্তান আবারও একজন ফিল্ড মার্শাল পেল।

সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে ভারতনিয়ন্ত্রিত কাশ্মীরের পেহেলগামে জঙ্গি হামলার পর পাকিস্তান-ভারত উত্তেজনা চরমে ওঠে। পাল্টাপাল্টি সামরিক হামলার মধ্যেই এই সিদ্ধান্তে আসে। সরকার বলেছে, জাতীয় নিরাপত্তা রক্ষায় আসিম মুনিরের ‘দূরদর্শী নেতৃত্ব’ ও ‘সাহসিকতা’র স্বীকৃতিতেই এই পদোন্নতি দেওয়া হয়েছে।
