A very early black label with white lettering Columbia opera record. A rather rare recording by a wonderful tenor that was born in Italy but settled and lived in the USA for most of his adult life and career. He was both a performing lyric tenor and voice teacher.
There is a pretty spectacular high C at the end of the duet (in this recording with a trumpet instead of a soprano) which is surprising for such a light voice. I adjusted the speed to about 79rpm to get things in the proper key of A flat.
The record is announced in English, but the label says the orchestra is The Royal Marine Band of Italy. It makes me wonder if the announcement was added in English in the USA or if they actually made the announcement in English originally. Perhaps the band was in the USA when it was recorded. It also could have been an American band made up of Italian immigrants. I don’t know.
