East Coast Swing is based in the jazz music traditions. These originate in Africa and the Caribbean. Lots of rhythms!
When we dance this style, we get to be on the balls of our feet and change directions a LOT! That is helpful to build foot, ankle, and calf strength which is CRUCIAL for BALANCE RECOVERY!
This helps us respond well to direction changes - in the dance for more fun and variety, and in life!
