A timelapse 200 days of Acromyrmex Octospinosus Leaf Cutter Ants growing their fungus garden - approx 6.5 months.
The workers cut leaves and carry them back to the fungus garden. These leaves are then mulched down to small pellets, added to the garden, and planted with a small amount of mycelium (fungus). As the mycelium grows on the fungus it produces small fluid filled sacs that the ants use for food, to feed their queen and young.
2023 update: The colony is now 1 year old and starting to produce alates (future queen ants) - the next chapter in their journey.
