Today, India is among the top 5 maize producers in the world, cultivating nearly 10.74 million hectares with an estimated 43.41 million tonnes of output in 2024–25. States like Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Bihar are leading producers.

So why are farmers still not getting the right price?

In Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara often called the “Corn City” maize farmers are being forced to sell their produce at ₹1500–1600 per quintal, far below the MSP of ₹2400 set by the Government.
