Описание: Mark Carney told President Trump in the Oval Office that Canada “won’t be for sale, ever” during a cordial first meeting after tariffs and months of sniping left relations between the neighbours at a historic low point.

Trump appeared determined to get along and lavished praise on the Canadian prime minister but insisted he would “never say never” about the potential for a “wonderful marriage” to make Canada the 51st US state.

The president had greeted Carney at the White House with a brief pat on the shoulder on Tuesday after posting moments before the meeting that America did not “need anything” from its northern neighbour.
