Rayiranellur Mala is a 500-metre-high hill where myth and history come together. It is closely linked to the famous story of Naranath Bhranthan from Parayipetta Panthirukulam.
According to folklore, Naranath Bhranthan was one of the twelve children of Vararuchi, the astrologer in King Vikramaditya’s court. He was known for rolling huge stones up the hill, only to let them roll back down, laughing joyfully at the act. One day, Goddess Durga appeared before him and blessed him. This event is believed to have happened on the first day of the Malayalam month Thulam. Even today, people climb the hill on that day to honour him.
Devotees visit here in large numbers during the pilgrimage season. From the summit, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surroundings. Rayiranellur Mala is a place filled with peace, mystery, and spiritual charm — perfect for those seeking both faith and solitude.
