In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

When his friend Daniel Pearl was abducted and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002, Todd decided to use music as a way to heal. In 2005, Todd organized an informal jam session in honor of his friend as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days. This modest gathering unpredictably sprouted into an internationally touring non-profit organization. FODfest has traveled the U.S. and sharing its mission to strengthen, empower, and educate communities with programming that promotes music as a platform for community building and produced programming in some 75 communities across the U.S., Middle East, and Far East.
