Inspired by one of my students who chose to play Louis Couperin over J. S. Bach, I decided to make a video explaining why I think more performers should do the same—and, by extension, perform more music by so-called "secondary" composers (who in reality are not secondary at all). I also discuss a wonderful example of Louis Couperin's predilection for using daring harmonic progressions, thus highlighting the uniqueness of his music. The video concludes with a performance of Louis Couperin's Sarabande I had originally posted a couple of years ago. For the performance, the harpsichord (by Martine Argellies, after Dulcken) was tuned to quarter-comma meantone, at A=415 Hz.
