Kalyan Karmakar started his career in market research in 1997. He began food blogging as a hobby in 2007 and then switched tracks in 2013 to become an independent food writer. He is now considered to be one of India’s leading food bloggers. He is a popular food columnist and a published author too. He runs Finely Chopped Consulting, a specialised consumer and market insights offering in the food space that brings together his two worlds of being consumer market researcher and a food writer. He started writing his blog www.FinelyChopped.net in 2007 which makes him a pioneer in the field. His debut book, a food travelogue called The Travelling Belly published by Hachette India in 2014, went into a reprint within a year of it being published. He is the curator of the Times Kitchen Tales, a pan Indian initiative to celebrate regional Indian food from the Times of India. He is also a popular food columnist and his words can be found at NDTV Food, Times of India Blogs, DailyO, Femina, The Indian Express and Scoopwhoop.
He is the India representative for HOST Milano. He won the best food writer and critic award 2019 in the 16h edition of the ICFA Awards organised by the Indian Culinary forum, has won the FBAI Best Food Blogger Award multiple times in every year since its inception, the Best Indian Food Blogger Award in the BH&G and Social Samosa Influencer Awards 2017, and the Godrej Protect Power Blogger Award in 2017. He was a finalist in the Esomar World Congress in 2008 in Montreux and won the best paper award in the Esomar Asia Pacific Conference, 2010, in Melbourne. ESOMAR is the world’s leading market research organisation. He is a part of the jury for the the Conde Nast Best Restaurant Awards, Food Super Star Academy, BW Hotelier Awards, Times Travel Awards and the Living Foodz Epicurean Guild Awards. He was a part of the 20 best food writers in India list published by The Upper Crust magazine. He is an Independent food writer. His blog has grown to be considered as one of India's leading food blogs. It has won the FBAI awards consistently every year since the awards were introduced in 2013. Kalyan is a food columnist and has written for publications such as Femina, Mumbai Mirror & MW Magazine and sites such as Eazydiner. He is the Foodie Hub rep in Mumbai and a jury member of their global awards. He has been invited to share the Indian food story in international food summits such as Host Milano, Casa Asia and Madrid Fusion. He conducts personalised food walks in Mumbai. According to a 2016 report published by Indian Cuisine RR, Kalyan has also been rated as 'top Indian food influencer on Twitter'. He has Authored the Travelling Belly and is the Curator of the Times Kitchen Tales from the Times of India. He was featured in Upper Crust top 20 food writers list 2019 and winner of best food critic award 2019 in the ICF Chef Awards.
