Momma cow had hidden her newborn baby calf (named Okra). By watching where Mom is looking and then walking that way kicks off the maternal instinct to protect it. That is how you trick mom into showing you where it is.
FYI, I do not kill the calves for Veal. They stay with mom and get all the milk they want. Watch to the end if you don't believe me

Side note: I get a lot of people telling me I should leave the calf alone. I am linking a video from the Swedish Homestead -"Newborn Calf Being Eaten Alive By Maggots". He was unable to get out to check on his Highland cattle, which have thick fur. Well the calf was well hidden and by the time he found it flies had laid eggs in the fur leading to maggots. He acted quickly and did an excellent job.
