6 in 10 US Women Predicted to Have Cardiovascular Disease by 2050, With Karen Maddox, MD, MPH

Описание: The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women is projected to increase dramatically through 2050, based on a recent statement from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Currently, over 62 million women in the US are living with some form of cardiovascular disease. Additionally, some health factors, including high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes, are increasing among young girls aged 2-19. Based on current trends and with no further intervention, these numbers are only expected to rise.
Now, in an interview with HCPLive, Karen Maddox, MD, MPH, a professor of medicine and public health and co-director of the Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy & Economics Research at the Washington University School of Medicine, discusses her recent study projecting the prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors and Life's Essential 8 components through 2050.

“The issue is that we don’t act on things when we find them, and we don’t necessarily get everyone the recommended guidelines,” Maddox said. “Many times, when someone young is found to have high blood pressure, we don’t take these very seriously, and we say they could lose some weight or exercise more and come back in a year or two.”
