Samatha Meditation is a practice that cultivates the ability to attain single-pointed equipoise or perfect concentration of the mind. This meditation is typically carried out in a serene setting, employing the “Seven-point meditation posture of Vairochana.” Within the thangka, nine progressive stages of mental development are depicted, symbolizing the journey. These stages are guided by the “Six powers” of Study, Contemplation, Memory, Comprehension, Diligence, and Perfection. A burning flame is situated alongside, representing the level of effort required for the development of both mindful recollection and understanding. This flame gradually diminishes as one progresses through each of the nine meditation stages.
