An Indian-made Tejas fighter jet crashed during a flight demonstration at the Dubai Airshow on Friday afternoon, killing the pilot.
The Indian Air Force said an investigation is starting. The plane, India’s only current domestically developed fighter, crashed during a display scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m. local time and set to last eight minutes.
Footage shared on social media showed the plane making a turn in front of spectators, then rolling once and slamming into the sand near the runway at Al Maktoum International Airport, where the Dubai Airshow is held. A fireball and huge plume of black smoke followed.
