Hi everyone!
I am so excited about the awesome work you are doing today!
This is the start of a week long community cleanup across Canada, where Canadians from coast to coast to coast are clearing plastics pollution from our shorelines from our beaches, parks, and neighbourhoods.
Plastics pollution is a major problem.
Every year, more than 8 million tonnes of plastic pollution flows into our waterways. This is the equivalent of a garbage truck full of plastic every single minute.
That’s also an enormous waste. We’re throwing out 150 billion dollars’ worth of plastics each year.
We need to keep that plastic out of our oceans and in our economy.
That’s why when Canada hosts G7 Environment Ministers in Halifax next week we’ll continue to build on the Canada-lead Plastics Charter, to rid our oceans and our waterways of plastics pollution.
We all have a role to play.
So thank you so much for all your effort today, and over the next week and all year long to make Canada a cleaner and healthier place to live!
