It has often been suggested that Indian nationhood came into existence with the unification of its landmass under colonial rule. About Speaker: -

Born in a ‘probashi’ Bengali family based mostly in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and daughter of a defence officer, Smita Mukerji has from the earliest years soaked in the cultures and flavours of different regions of India. This imbibed in her a sense of oneness and a deep attachment and reverence for all the constituent elements of India, in particular its history. She went on to study history in university and though she got sidetracked to other fields professionally, history has been her abiding love.
