It was a day like any other, until a set of bus owners decided to gather round for an excursion. That day was filled with friends, fun, and buses, of course. Started with three buses, then a fourth joined in. Three additional buses show up before lunch, and two more appear near the end. Overall, it was a fun day.
For the last part of the excursion, before the battery gave up, a bus from Northern California traveled down to LA to be part of the day. It would be my second Gillig Phantom I would ever ride, and the first Gillig with a 6V92 I would ever ride. Only twice I've ridden buses with a 6V92 engine paired with an Allison transmission, but it was a first to ride a bus with a 6V92 engine paired with a Voith transmission. Not to mention it had an air starter. Less than half the original seats were intact, as the owner mentioned that Sacramento Regional Transit removed more than half of the seats when the 9000s retired from service. For a 29-year-old bus, it holds up, it's a comfortable ride, and it was fun.
Note to self: have an extra battery charged and ready to swap when the current one in use dies.
