Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957) conducts the NBC Symphony Orchestra in the only official performance of the unpublished "Overture" to the opera AIDA by Giuseppe Verdi. The overture was never published and Verdi discarded it to write the familiar prelude to Act I instead. Maestro Toscanini, who knew Verdi and his family, obtained permission from the Verdi Estate to perform the Overture for this one broadcast performance on March 30, 1940 in New York City.
Digitally transferred from tapes sourced from the broadcast recording with applied Magix audio restoration software without added reverb or artificial ambiance.
