Day Two of the 12th Annual Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention took place on 10th December 2025, bringing together diaspora leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners to advance practical pathways for investment, cooperation, and sustainable development. The day featured high-level discussions on mining, remittances, smart cities, food security, trade and investment, and diaspora-led financing models.
Key sessions included the Artisanal, Commercial, and Green Mining Session, led by Mr. Thomas Mutwiwa, Secretary of the State Department for Mining (representing Mr. Harry Kimtai, CBS, Principal Secretary, State Department for Mining, Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs), alongside Mr. Stephen Kuria, Chair and CEO, Kenya Australia Chamber of Commerce and AAEMI.
The Smart Cities and Affordable Housing Session brought together Ms. Ruth Kirima-Barry, Executive Board Member, Kenya Diaspora Alliance, focusing on diaspora real estate investment, housing cooperatives, and urban development. Mr. Peter Wairegi, Managing Director, Global Link East Africa and Chairman, Kenya Professional Realtors Association; and Mr. Menelik Makonnen, a real estate entrepreneur with innovative technologies for the construction industry discussed in length what the technology and systems would work for Africa's future Smart Cities and Affordable Housing.
The Creatives Session kicked off on a high note with a passionate speech by Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, and Amb. Ted Kwaka, where emphasis on the growth and sustenance of the creatives industry was made.
Food systems and agribusiness opportunities were explored under the moderation of Sir Errol King, with contributions from Mr. William Thegeya, Secretary General of the Kenyan Diaspora in South Africa (KEDASA).
Trade, investment, and project financing discussions featured Ms. Dottie Dorothy Liech, Regional Director for Africa at the Nordic Global Investment Foundation (Denmark), emphasizing blended finance, institutional capital, and scalable diaspora investment models.
Day Two reinforced the Convention’s commitment to translating dialogue into bankable projects, partnerships, and long-term diaspora-led development frameworks for Kenya and the wider region.
