Knock down or build up?
This has been the much debated question in our community. We were fortunate to be able to take a tour of historic saw-toothed Bates Mill No. 5. The building was constructed in 1912 and all the work was done through human power. As we walked through the vast vacant building we couldn't help but picture those who worked here and how they lived.
The machines and factory equipment still exist although covered in dust they were grand in nature. So what do you do with a building of such historic nature, do you preserve the unique architecture and renovate the existing structure; or do you realize the cost of keeping it moderately renovated is too much. The tour concluded and after listening to what Lincoln Jeffers, Director of Economic & Community Development- It's hard to form an opinion. It is our hope the best decision is made, and that is what's best for the our residents.
