In this video, I service a Seiko 5 mechanical movement, focusing on the part I’ve been most apprehensive about so far: oiling and reassembly.
The movement has already been fully stripped and cleaned — now it’s time to choose the correct oils, apply them in the right places, and see whether everything goes back together and runs as it should.
Spoiler: it doesn’t go perfectly.
There are mistakes, a broken part, and a balance that refuses to play ball — but this is all part of learning real mechanical watchmaking. Nothing hidden, nothing glossed over.
