Описание: The Cowlitz Indian Tribe, known as "The Salmon People," is leading a massive effort to restore salmon habitat in the Grays River in Washington state. For decades, the science community thought removing logs from rivers would benefit salmon populations -- but in fact, it did the opposite, destroying critical spawning and rearing habitat. In Part 1 of our 3-part video series, we look at the tribe's science-based plan to add engineered log jams to the river, mimicking what should have been there naturally. Watch as thousands of whole Rayonier trees are felled with their roots intact, ready to become a critical component of the engineered log jams. This is how one of the most ambitious river restoration projects in the Pacific Northwest begins. Watch Part 2 to see how a helicopter assists in building the log jams!
