On January 25, 2026, the Sicilian city of Niscemi began to literally collapse off a cliff. A 4-kilometer-long landslide, triggered by Cyclone Harry, created a 20-meter precipice and left hundreds of houses hanging on the edge of the abyss.

This is not the first time Niscemi has faced a disaster of this kind. In 1997, 400 people were evacuated by a similar landslide. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the area on Wednesday (January 28), flying over the giant cracks and damaged structures by helicopter. The Italian government declared a state of emergency and allocated an initial 100 million euros, but the estimated damage has already reached 2 billion euros.
