The BYD Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3, an electric SUV recently launched in China at a starting price of $18,200, brings a compelling mix of performance, intelligence, and innovation. Built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0 Evo+, the Tai 3 is equipped with a high-revving 20,000 RPM motor and the intelligent All-Terrain System (iATS), which can automatically adapt to various surfaces such as mud, grass, snow, and sand. Another key feature is the Tire Stability Control (TSC) system, which ensures continued vehicle operation even in the event of a tire blowout by lifting the affected wheel and allowing the remaining wheels to drive independently at up to 80 km/h for 30 kilometers. The DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System complements the ride comfort and adaptability, akin to a CDC variable damping system, which uses electronic valves to adjust shock absorber response dynamically based on road conditions.

In terms of dimensions, the standard BYD Tai 3 measures 4605 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1720 mm in height, with a 2745 mm wheelbase and a curb weight of 1995 kg. A variant that includes the Lingyuan on-board drone system features the same wheelbase but has a taller profile at 1930 mm in height. One of the standout highlights is the “God’s Eye” C intelligent driving system, which utilizes 12 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to enable over 30 advanced driver-assistance functions. These include highway navigation on autopilot, obstacle avoidance, and parking assist, enhancing both driver convenience and overall safety.

Powertrain options include both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. The RWD version delivers 160 kW (215 hp) and 310 Nm of torque through a permanent magnet synchronous motor, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds and is powered by a 65.28 kWh Blade LFP battery. The AWD variant combines a 110 kW (148 hp) front AC asynchronous motor with a 200 kW (268 hp) rear permanent magnet motor, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, with battery choices of 78.72 kWh or 72.96 kWh Blade LFP packs. All variants have a top speed of 201 km/h and a CLTC-rated range of up to 501 km, with fast charging capabilities allowing a 30% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes.
