Sonamasjid — A 500-Year-Old Architectural Masterpiece of Bengal’s Glorious Past.
Sonamasjid, one of Bangladesh’s most remarkable heritage sites, stands as a timeless symbol of our history and culture. Built during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah (1493–1519 AD), this 500-year-old mosque reflects the finest example of Sultanate-era Islamic architecture in North Bengal.
Located in Pirojpur village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, the mosque is admired for its elegant stonework, exquisite domes, and serene surroundings. Visitors can explore the mosque, pay tribute to the graves of martyrs Birshreshtha Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir and Shaheed Major Nazmul Haque Tulu, and discover nearby historical gems like the Darasbari Mosque, Tahkhana Complex, and Khanjan Dighi Mosque.
Through this BSS heritage feature, journey back in time to experience the artistry, devotion, and enduring legacy that make Sonamasjid a treasured monument of Bangladesh.
