Based loosely on the first part of Jonathan Swift’s novel, this 1939 Technicolor musical fantasy follows seaman Lemuel Gulliver after a shipwreck lands him on Lilliput — a land of people no bigger than six inches tall.

The story blends adventure, romance, and song as Gulliver becomes embroiled in the tiny world’s politics. What begins with curiosity and comedy leads into dueling kings, a planned royal wedding, and later, a looming conflict between Lilliput and neighboring Blefuscu — sparked over disagreement on a wedding song.

Produced by Max Fleischer and directed by Dave Fleischer, Gulliver’s Travels was a bold leap for the studio — made in response to the success of Snow White. Its animation mixes traditional hand-inked visuals with rotoscoped human figures to create a striking contrast between giant and miniature worlds.
