Greens foreign affairs spokesman David Shoebridge has described the United States’ actions in Venezuela as "a gross breach of international law" that he said put the world on a "dangerous path of lawless aggression".
After a rapid attack on the capital of Caracas, US special forces grabbed Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, while airstrikes pounded multiple sites across the city.
Shoebridge said Australia must "urgently reassess its relationship with the US" and remove American troops and bases.
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and opposition foreign affairs spokeswoman Michaelia Cash have welcomed the US operations, calling Maduro "an illegitimate president".
