HOW I USE AI TO PRODUCE MY MUSIC CONCEPTS 🎶🤖
Afro-House | BandLab | AI-Assisted Workflow
In this video, I break down how I use AI as a creative co-producer — not to make music for me, but to help me understand, refine, and elevate the ideas I already have.
This track, “February” (working title), started as a flat, dreamy demo. Through intentional prompting, documentation, and a lot of trial and error, I used AI to help guide mixing decisions, FX choices, and space management — all while staying fully inside BandLab’s stock tools and limitations.
This is not about shortcuts.
It’s about learning why things work.
🎧 Project Overview
Genre: Afro-House / Afro-Tech (with old-school Kwaito influences)
Tempo & Key: 120 BPM, A-minor
Vibe: Dark, spiritual, gritty, lonely, reflective
Inspired by: Dlala Thukzin, Heavy K, Mi Casa, Funky Qla
🧠 The “AI Co-Producer” Workflow
I use AI to:
Diagnose why a mix feels boxy, flat, or crowded
Suggest BandLab-friendly FX chains
Create frequency pockets instead of just turning things down
Think in hierarchies (kick, vocal, percussion, texture)
Learn why certain settings I assumed were correct… actually weren’t
Everything starts with my ideas first — drums, chords, vocals, structure.
AI only comes after the foundation is already there.
🔊 What I Cover in This Video
The difference between a “hot mix” and hitting the digital ceiling
How I shaped Heavy K-style drums using EQ and compression
Turning a washed-out vocal into an intimate radio / telephone tone
Using duplicated vocals as atmosphere instead of clutter
Making space for vocals without killing the piano vibe
All of this is done using BandLab stock effects only.
⚖️ The Real Pros & Cons of Using AI in Music
Pros:
Accelerates learning
Forces you to think intentionally
Helps you understand why something works
Great for producers who are still developing their ears
Cons:
Preparing prompts and documents takes time
It can be mentally exhausting
You still have to experiment — a lot
It doesn’t replace intuition, it builds it
I’m slowly reaching the point where I can try most things on my own — and honestly, this video is just the surface of what’s possible.
🚫 Important Clarification
I do not use AI to generate full songs.
I don’t ask it to “make a hit.”
I don’t outsource creativity.
I create first.
Then I use AI to enhance, refine, and learn.
❤️ A Personal Note
I’m trying to grow this channel so I can eventually:
Sustain my creative life
Pay for tools and subscriptions
Upgrade my studio setup
Stop depending on my parents
Take full responsibility for my dreams
My goal is to reach 500 subscribers by my birthday 🎂
