이광호는 대상이 실제 어떻게 보이는지에 관심 갖기보다는 대상을 대하는 작가의 내면 심상, 즉 작가의 '촉각적 표현 욕구'를 극대화하고자 합니다. 그 결과, 작품은 극도의 사실성에 기반한듯해 보이지만, 작가의 의지가 담긴 색면 덩어리를 통한 추상성을 제시합니다. 작가는 전통적 회화 기법들을 답습하되 이를 현대적으로 재해석하여 '회화적 재현'이 아닌 '회화적 시선의 재현'을 탐구하고 그만의 시각 언어를 일굽니다.
Rather than being concerned with how an object actually looks, Lee KwangHo seeks to maximize the artist's inner image of the object, his 'tactile need for expression.' As a result, the works seem to be based on extreme realism, but present an abstraction through masses of colored surfaces of his own volition. Lee KwangHo revisits traditional painting techniques but reinterprets them in a contemporary way, exploring the 'reproduction of the painterly gaze' rather than 'painterly reproduction' and creating his own visual language.
