Between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, we traded the Rangers for something a bit more agile: 1000cc Dune Buggies and Quad Bikes. Honestly? This was the most fun I’ve ever had on four wheels.
I was behind the wheel of a 1000cc buggy, throwing it sideways through every turn. You could literally see the front right suspension extending out and hooking into the sand—the insane amount of travel on these machines keeps you planted no matter how hard you push. I had my mom riding shotgun, and it was a toss-up as to what was louder: the grunt of that 1000cc machine or her screams every time we dropped over a massive slip face!
At roughly R1100 for the buggies and R900 for the quads, it’s the best money you’ll spend in Namibia. My advice? Go for the buggies—the quads are great, but the buggies are on a completely different level of fun.
