Russia and China conducted their first-ever joint naval patrol in the Pacific Ocean. The patrol began in early August after the Maritime Interaction 2025 drills in the Sea of Japan. Russia’s diesel-electric submarine Volkhov and a Chinese PLA Navy submarine took part, moving along an agreed route in the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea. After the patrol, both crews returned to their bases. This comes as Western navies increase their presence in the Indo-Pacific. Earlier this year, both countries held another patrol to improve military ties, ensure peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific, watch over the seas, and protect Russian and Chinese economic facilities.
