The London Branch of American Civil War veterans were unique; the only organisation of its type to exist in the United Kingdom. John Davis, a tenacious, Hampshire-born missionary and veteran, working in the impoverished borough of Bermondsey in London, founded the organisation in September 1910, offering peer support for the British citizens who served in the conflict. Gina Denham, herself a descendant of one of the earliest branch members, leads this exploration into the organisation, its founder and his legacy.
