Herbalists who ignore training risk not getting licenses from NDA

National Drug Authority officials have asked herbalists to get basic skills from the Directorate of Industrial Training.
They say no herbalist will be given a practicing certificate from NDA if they are not trained in herbalism.
The head of standards at Directorate of Industrial Training, Safina Nakyobe says herbalists have to follow professional practicing guidelines just like their counterparts who treat patients using western medicine.
The herbalists acquired various skills including adding value to herbs. Some of them, according to DIT officials are now able to produce herbal capsules that treat various ailments.
Hajji Jamiru Mukwaya Lutakome who represents herbalists on the NDA committee says it’s impossible to guide untrained herbalists.
Dr Tuhaise Muhummuza, says some of his colleagues who were trained in medical schools have resorted to natural herbs to treat various diseases and complications.
