Sleep isn’t maths. It’s biology.
There are so many numbers in infant sleep —
wake windows, exact timings, perfect schedules.
And when you’re exhausted, those numbers feel reassuring.
They promise clarity. Control. Better sleep.
But what if the problem isn’t the baby —
and it isn’t the routine —
but the way we’re applying it?
In this video, we explore what science actually tells us about infant sleep:
• Why rigid timing can increase struggle
• The difference between behaviour and regulation
• What neuroscience says about co-regulation
• Why silence doesn’t always mean calm
• How sleep autonomy really develops
• And why watching the baby matters more than watching the clock
Babies are born with immature nervous systems.
Their ability to regulate stress, link sleep cycles, and settle independently develops gradually — through repeated experiences of safety and responsive care.
This doesn’t mean structure doesn’t matter.
Routine helps.
Rigidity doesn’t.
Predictability supports sleep when it aligns with biology.
It creates tension when it overrides it.
On this channel, we don’t fight biology.
We learn to read it.
I work from Sleep Language — observing, interpreting, and responding to the baby in front of us — rather than applying one-size-fits-all rules.
Because babies aren’t machines.
And sleep improves when regulation comes first.
If you’re tired of rigid sleep advice and want an evidence-informed, respectful approach, you’re in the right place.
