IIT Bombay Sahil Wakode Death: Caste Harassment Allegations, SC/ST Case & Campus Accountability

Описание: IIT Bombay Sahil Wakode Death: Caste Harassment Allegations, SC/ST Case & Campus Accountability

The death of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode has triggered a wider debate over alleged caste-based harassment, campus accountability and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Wakode, a second-year BTech student, died by suicide on September 18, hours after an examination incident involving the alleged use of a mobile phone. His family has alleged that he faced caste-based harassment by professor Suryanarayana Doolla, following which Mumbai Police registered a case of abetment to suicide and invoked provisions of the SC/ST Act. IIT Bombay has said no complaint from Wakode was recorded with its SC/ST cell or administration, while the family continues to stand by its allegations. The Mumbai Crime Branch is now investigating the case, including the circumstances surrounding Wakode’s final hours. The allegations remain under investigation and have not been established.
