I was flying my drone along the Santa Barbara coastline this weekend when I suddenly noticed several dark shapes moving through the water near the beach. When I zoomed in, I realized they were multiple leopard sharks swimming surprisingly close to shore right near swimmers.
From the drone you can clearly see them cruising through the shallow water, moving gracefully along the coastline. It was pretty incredible to watch from above and realize how close they were to people in the water.
Leopard sharks are common along the California coast, but seeing several of them together so close to shore was an amazing and unexpected sight.
