[0:05] -- Hi guys this is Mark from anypond.com your trusted resource in the UK for ponds and water features and today what we’re doing is we’re building a new dragonfly pool and what we’re actually doing is we’re actually putting some stuff packing from an original wildlife pool, which was down the bottom of the garden, just to basically seed this pond.
[0:23] -- So we’ve put in the tap water conditioners, is we’ve put in some beneficial bacteria. Now it’s the time to slowly start putting bits and pieces back in from the old pond. Here’s a whole bucket full of goodies. We’ve got lots of snails. We’ve lots of invertebrates. We’ve got some bits and pieces you wanna put in to the new pond...so basically it seeds the whole thing.
[0:46] -- It’s a little bit smelly and it’s not a very nice job but it’s gonna do no end of good for this brand new pond and it’ll take about probably six months for this pond to start stabilise. We’re in November now and next spring I will come back and I’ll take a video of this pond as it matures.
[1:06] -- The top tip of today is to add quite a bit of muck from an old original wildlife pool just to seed it. But you have to be very very careful that you don’t introduce invasive plants. A lot of the aquatic plants do grow very fast but there’s a lot of plants that are invasive as well. So just be careful of those invasive plants.
[1:27] -- Best thing to do is to spread it on and just to chuck it in basically. Some people put manure in to see the pond to feed the algae because we want the algae to feed the invertebrates but this is of a lovely wildlife pond from down the bottom and it’s great stuff.
[1:43] – So it's literally a case of throwing it in.
[1:45] – (Mark throwing in the mixture from the other wildlife pond).
[1:59] - Some of you might be thinking, “Mark, there’s duckweed in that”. Duckweed in this pond is not gonna be too much of a problem because there are some dragonflies like to deposit their eggs in the floating plants and, duckweed, if it’s left unchecked but we’re gonna put a lot of plants in this pond it will grow crazy, but you’ve got a good mixture of plants they’re competing with the duckweed for food then you should be fine.
[1:24] -- Thanks for watching. See you in the next video.
